Korean Lash Lift vs Regular Lash Lift: What's Actually Different?
A Korean lash lift lifts from the root for a soft, natural sweep; a regular lift curls the full lash. Compare technique, results, longevity, and price.

Both treatments do the same fundamental thing: they reshape your natural lashes so they sweep upward without extensions, mascara, or a daily curler. The difference is where the lift happens and how soft the result looks — and that difference is big enough that clients who disliked one often love the other.
We perform both at Urban Brows across our Edmonton-area studios. This guide covers how the techniques differ, what the results look like on real lashes, how long each lasts, and how to choose.
The Short Answer
A regular lash lift curls the length of the lash around a silicone shield, producing a defined, visible curl — the "I'm wearing a great mascara" look.
A Korean lash lift positions the lash lower on a softer shield so the lift concentrates at the root. The lash rises steeply from the lid, then sweeps naturally rather than curling. The effect reads less like a treatment and more like you were born with enviable lashes. At Urban Brows, the Korean version also includes a keratin conditioning treatment and a lash tint as standard.

Where the Techniques Diverge
Shield placement and shape
In a classic lift, the lash is combed up and over the curve of the shield, so the chemical process sets a curl along the lash's full length. In the Korean technique, the artist sets the lash lower on a flatter, softer shield. The lifting solution does its work near the base, angling the lash upward at the root while leaving the length nearly straight.
Processing philosophy
Korean lash studios built the technique around precision and hair health: shorter, more conservative processing times, gentler formulas, and shield sizes mapped to each client's eye shape and lash length during the consultation. That philosophy is the reason the treatment suits fine, fragile, or previously over-processed lashes — the kind that a strong perm solution can leave crimped or brittle.
What's included
A regular lash lift is usually just the lift; tint is a separate add-on (at Urban Brows it's bundled as Lash Tint & Lift). A Korean lash lift includes the tint and a keratin conditioning treatment in one appointment, so lashes leave darker, glossier, and stronger than they arrived.

Which One Suits Your Lashes?
Choose a regular lash lift if:
- You want maximum visible curl and definition
- Your lashes are medium to long with healthy thickness
- You love the freshly-curled look and want it to last for weeks
- You're happy to add a tint only when you want one
Choose a Korean lash lift if:
- You want people to notice your eyes, not your treatment
- Your lashes are fine, short, or recovering from extensions
- A previous lift felt too tight, crimped, or over-curled
- You want tint and conditioning handled in one appointment
- You're a first-timer nervous about an obviously "done" result
Straight or downward-pointing lashes do well with either — it comes down to whether you want a curl or a sweep. If you're still unsure, your artist will look at your lash length, density, and eye shape at the consultation and recommend one. (Deciding between a lift and extensions instead? How Long Does a Korean Lash Lift Last?
Both treatments last six to eight weeks — the length of a natural lash growth cycle. The practical difference is in how they age. A full-length curl grows out with the lash, so around week five or six you may notice a slight bend sitting further from the root. A root lift simply relaxes as new lashes grow in, so the transition back to natural is smoother.
Aftercare is identical and minimal: keep lashes dry for the first 24 hours, avoid oil-based makeup removers, and brush them up with a clean spoolie in the morning. Healthy lashes hold any lift better — our guide on how to grow eyelashes covers the habits that make a difference.
Korean Lash Lift in Edmonton
Urban Brows offers the Korean lash lift at all four Edmonton-area studios — Mill Woods, Bonnie Doon, Beaumont, and West Edmonton — with keratin treatment and tint included in the price. Appointments run about an hour, your eyes stay closed the whole time, and most clients find it relaxing enough to doze off.
You can book a Korean lash lift online in about 60 seconds, or book a classic lash lift if the defined curl is more your look. Not sure which lash service fits you overall? The Lash Lab consultation takes two minutes and recommends a style based on your eyes, lashes, and routine.
