The appointment opens with a quick cleanse to take off makeup and surface oil, since the mask holds better against clean skin. Your artist will ask what your skin has been doing lately — tight, congested, dull, irritated — and mix accordingly.

The setting layer is the part people notice. As it firms, it holds moisture against the skin instead of letting it evaporate, which is why skin feels plumper straight away rather than an hour later. The effect is short-lived by nature, so it is best timed a day or two before something rather than weeks ahead.
